About Us

Khristiya Seva Niketan

The Khristiya Seva Niketan was established by Methodist missionaries in the year 1914. It was formerly called The Santhal Mission hospital as it catered almost exclusively to the needs of the Santhalis in and around Sarenga. The hospital is one of the only mission hospitals that has stood the test of time in the entire state of West Bengal. The hospital has served a vital role in providing advanced healthcare to the people in and around Sarenga and has also fulfilled the role of a strong Christian witness in an otherwise dark area of naturalism and spirit-worship. Till date the KSN is the only institution that provides advanced, holistic healthcare in the fields of obstetrics, gynecology, pediatrics, general medicine, general, laparoscopic and pediatric surgery in a radius of 65 kilometers.

Interestingly, many years ago a sadhu prophesied that this would become a place of healing. The service initiated as a clinic has since undergone many expansions and currently stands as a 150 bed general hospital with an outpatient department, basic laboratory and pharmacy. While the hospital is Christian in ethos both staff and patients come from many different faith communities.

The hospital is a not-for-profit organisation providing essential primary and secondary healthcare to the local community. The population consists largely of farmers and tribal communities living amongst the surrounding teak forests. Financial resources are limited and therefore people are in need of affordable healthcare.

The hospital is situated in Sarenga, a village of approximately 25,000 inhabitants in the district of Bankura, West Bengal. It is about 180 kilometers from Kolkata and 60 kilometers from Bankura town.
